ST. FRANCIS XAVIER SMALL COMMUNITY – SYSTON WEST

POSITION STATEMENT - JUNE 08

  1. The group has now had 83 meetings since Jan.04.
  2. We have at least 10 active members who come to the meetings when they can, bearing in mind we meet twice a month.  No one is expected to apologise if they are not able to attend.
  3. The 3-monthly programme cards are put through the doors of everyone on the register of Syston West.  A number are left in the church porch for non Syston West parishioners.
  4. There is an open invitation to anyone in the parish to sit in on a meeting to see what it is like.  Also we have a social get-together in early July to which a few parishioners are invited from outside Syston West, including Fr.Anthony.
  5. The meetings are ideal for someone who is new to the church.  This view is endorsed by someone who has recently joined the group.
  6. We now, as well as ‘Word of Life’, decide on a ‘Lesson for Life’, based on the gospel.  We all try to use this in our daily lives.
  7. There are no nominated leaders in the group as everyone is of equal status.  Some members are more comfortable with particular roles than others and whilst members are encouraged to fully participate, there is never any compulction.
  8. Group members are currently attending retreats together.
  9. We strive to contribute to the community and are conscious of the needs of the sick and elderly.
