Music Group

The music group is always looking for new volunteers. They meet on Thursdays at 7pm in the church.
If you have 30 - 45 minutes to spare and would like to join them, please do go along to help them prepare
the music for the 11am Sunday Mass and special services and celebrations.

Faith Sharing

There has been progress in evangelization and ecumenism, though collaboration in Sileby itself is mainly between us and the Methodists.
Lent groups were well attended in both Barrow and Sileby. Joint Evening Prayer on the third Sunday of the month continues at Holy Trinity.

Liturgy and Prayer

The group has continued to develop music for Mass appropriate to the liturgical seasons, non-Eucharistic services and seasonal talks and workshops.

Syston Liturgy Group: Report -  1 May 11

Earlier this  year Fr Anthony, Anne Skevington and I attended a workshop in Derby for parish musicians, introducing them to new settings for the Mass which use the new translation of the Missal. The day was concluded by a Mass using some of this music. Over the next few months we will be working to try it out and introduce it to the parish so that we can be prepared when the changes are fully implemented later this year. Now the Easter services are over we can start to concentrate our efforts on how to begin these changes which will be the focus of our work for the next 6 mths

Meditation Group
Our group meets every other Tuesday throughout the year and we usually gather in the Library.  We’ve been meeting now for over ten years and, like most groups, we have a small core membership and others who come & go from time-to-time.
It’s a relaxed meeting; those who wish to, share the leadership.  We start with prayer, music, etc followed by a short-recorded talk from the ‘World Community of Christian Meditation’ (WCCM) established by Dom John Main.  We then meditate in silence for around 20 minutes, concluding with prayer or suitable short readings.
Some of the sisters join us, they like to leave in the silence.  The rest of us then have coffee/tea.  Dates of meeting for the rest of the year below and you are most welcome to join us, whenever you can.

All meetings on Tuesdays     Please try to come.   Vicki 01664 840083

Small Christian Communities
Syston Pastoral Council were recently amazed to hear how well Francis Xavier Small Christian Community is thriving after 80 meetings. Gathering twice a month seems to be a strength rather than a problem. Where will a second Small Christian Community take root in Syston parish - Thurmaston, Queniborough, Rearsby/E Goscote, or Central/East Syston?

The ‘theory’ of Small Christian Community
Every baptised person belongs to the Universal [=‘Catholic’] Church.

Membership of a Small Community brings each one an experience of this belonging - (‘Small’ meaning ‘of about twelve people’).

The normal basis for these communities is geographical. They meet twice a month, to pray the scriptures in preparation for the parish Sunday Mass, and to develop joint action.

 Small Communities help us to:

1.         Share our faith

2.         Benefit from Scripture and Tradition

3.         Strengthen our bonds with one another

4.         Prepare for our Sunday Mass

5.         Grow in prayer and service

[Acts 2 42:] After 1  Peter shared his faith, the very first Christians  ‘remained faithful to the

2  Teaching of the apostles, 3  the Community, 4  the Breaking of bread and 5  the Prayers.’

The group has recently held a happy Barbeque in Father’s garden and  been in strength to Hyde Park to welcome Pope Benedict.
