Parish Notices

Next Year's World Youth Day Pilgrimage is taking place from 11-22 August 2011.  Are you aged 18-25 years (by August 2011) and interested in joining the Leicester group?  We had our first meeting a few weeks ago which was well attended.  If you couldn’t make it but are still interested, just pop along to our second meeting on Thursday 8 July at 7.00pm  at St Patrick’s, Beaumont Leys Lane, Leicester to find out more.
Approximate cost is estimated to be £500 per person but we would hope to raise at least half of this amount with fundraising.  You can also contact Fr Martin Hardy, Angela Bailey or Ian Goodrich by email:
leicesterwyd@gmail.com, check out the World Youth Day website at en.madrid11.com, or for more info on the Leicester group visit the St Peter’s, Leicester website at www.stpetersleicester.org.uk and click on ‘Youth Activities’.

CAFOD Nottingham says thank you! After a busy start to the year with the Haiti Appeal and the 50th anniversary of Lent Fast Day, with the 'Give it up!' new style approach to Lent, CAFOD Nottingham wants to acknowledge the generosity of all who have supported our work through, prayer, action and/or wealth sharing. So far this year our diocese has donated £555k to CAFOD, of which £200k came from parishes. This is a magnificent sum- thank you one and all!"

Check out www.ndcys.com for guidance and help in youth ministry ...... the youth service website has loads to offer so spend a bit of time browsing and see what you find!

EXPERIENCE SHOWS THAT A FAMILY WITH A KS2 CHILD CANNOT BRING her/him through Baptism preparation and First Communion preparation simultaneously. The consequence is that any necessary baptism preparation must take place during the summer term: it won’t be possible for a child to make its First Communion next year unless it has been prepared for baptism before this summer break.

More people to count the Syston collection would be welcome: 230 1445.- as would a few more people willing to go on the Readers list.

Name, date of death and place in the parish where they lived is what you can put on the page to add them to the Remembrance Book.

Many thanks to the Newell and Quinn families for paying for     the new light shades in the church in memory of Redmond.

Fr David Everitt has moved from Sileby to Saxby, but will be most grateful for our continued loving prayer at this time. Please visit him at:  The Cottage, The Old Rectory, Church Lane, Saxby, Melton Mowbray   LE14 2RR  01572 787523  Mob: 07892 952918    deveritt192@hotmail.com (Read his message to our Parish here)

Sileby Parish Pastoral Council was renewed for 2009– 2011.    The main personnel changes are: George Timmons and Joan ap Thomas have returned, and form our Planning dept to develop a new three-year Parish Pastoral Plan.  St Edward’s is still vacant. A coloured hand-out introducing your councillors is due any day.

The parish boundary between Syston and Our Lady’s is going to be changed from the City/County boundary to Humberstone Lane – which is what, I guess, if you thought about it at all, you already thought it was.

To have a strong youth group we should perhaps join forces across our two parishes?

Some results of the recent von Hügel Institute survey in our two parishes:

84.8%  felt school was as important as home for giving moral guidance to children

65.1%   thought divorced and remarried people should be admitted to Communion

62.4%  thought they could be good Catholics without confession.

62.3%  thought the Church should allow divorce and remarriage.

39.2%  found the Church’s teaching on contraception hard to accept, and

49.5%  thought it should be revisited.

25.0%  said they had never heard of the Second Vatican Council- a leg-pull p’raps?

Closed Draw: Cheques payable to : Syston R C Parish Church.  Thank you for your support.  New members needed  (£1 per week per number - draw each month). Can existing members take another number?

The Kungoni Art Centre, Mtakataka, Malawi, from which the Sileby carvings came, is now available on a new website: www.kungoni.org
Did you know that there is some Mua work in Buckingham Palace?

Syston Parish Accounts - Click on this link for  Syston Parish Financial return to the Diocese of Nottingham for 2009-10 and 2008-09 (Income & Expenditure for the Parish).

There is a proposal to attach a small meeting room to our hall in Syston, incidentally providing a covered way between the Church and the Hall. Fr Anthony would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Newletters - Many thanks to Lorraine Jarkulisz for running the Sileby Newsletter so well. Would anyone like to do a similar job with the Syston bulletin? I'm sure there would be far fewer mistakes!

The adverse climate for savers has not spared the Diocese:  parish Quotas are to be increased from 17.5% to 20% of collection income. The Diocesan Quota, now brings in £1m a year, of which about 40% goes on the Education Service and Diocesan staff costs.

Communion at homeeven if you’re only housebound for a few days.

Have you caught anything, friends?

Our shared ‘convert class’ meets on Thurs in Sileby, 7.30-9.00pm.  Everyone is welcome to come and see how we work. Now is a good time to join, with a prospect of being received into the church next Easter. Is there someone you would love to see in our RCIA? And are you also the only person who could invite them?

Before you buy a Catechism, you could sample it on the Net

The paragraphs in the Catechism of the Catholic Church referred to at the top of each week’s bulletin will take you through the whole Catechism in 3 yrs, and prepare you for the Gospel you are going to hear each Sunday.

Add www.WriteToThem.com to your ‘Favorites’ for the time when you will need to email your councillor or MP.  All you need is your postcode.
