SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES Progress statement, Jan ‘12 We now have Representatives for each of the six SCCs in the parish. Queniborough-cum-Gaddesby is the only Community which does not also have a helper/alternate, so can someone please volunteer? The next step is for the Representatives to meet as a group to decide what we need to do to establish each Community, as well as the arrangements for communications with each household. Once this has been done each Rep will write to you to set out how we hope to give everyone who wants it both pastoral support and the opportunity for spiritual growth.

The parish boundary between Syston and Our Lady’s is going to be changed from the City/County boundary to Humberstone Lane – which is what, I guess, if you thought about it at all, you already thought it was.

Some results of the recent von Hügel Institute survey in our two parishes:

84.8%  felt school was as important as home for giving moral guidance to children

65.1%   thought divorced and remarried people should be admitted to Communion

62.4%  thought they could be good Catholics without confession.

62.3%  thought the Church should allow divorce and remarriage.

39.2%  found the Church’s teaching on contraception hard to accept, and

49.5%  thought it should be revisited.

25.0%  said they had never heard of the Second Vatican Council- a leg-pull p’raps?

The adverse climate for savers has not spared the Diocese:  parish Quotas are to be increased from 17.5% to 20% of collection income. The Diocesan Quota, now brings in £1m a year, of which about 40% goes on the Education Service and Diocesan staff costs.

Have you caught anything, friends?

Our shared ‘convert class’ meets on Thurs in Sileby, 7.30-9.00pm.  Everyone is welcome to come and see how we work. Now is a good time to join, with a prospect of being received into the church next Easter. Is there someone you would love to see in our RCIA? And are you also the only person who could invite them?
